“2002 JAPAN MULT!MED!A FEST!VAL
in OKAYAMA”

(1) Summary

At “2002 JAPAN MULT!MED!A FEST!VAL !n OKAYAMA”, CANVAS held its first sponsored workshops for elementary school children from Nov. 16 to 17, 2002 at festival main hall CONVEX OKAYAMA (visitors in total of the festival is about 120,000 (in 3 days)).

(2) Workshops

Program A: Creative Photo Workshop
(10 children admitted per workshop/for children at the age of 9 to 12)
Each participant take photographs, whatever images he or she likes, using provided digital camera. Taking photos with their own ideas, children could develop their creativities and expressions of own. Children also learn the importance of sharing their own world with the others by printing out the works and presenting them at the front of the people. At the end, their works were put out on the website for world to see.

Program B: Cricket Workshop
(20 children admitted per workshop/for children at the age of 9 to 12)
Crickets is an tiny computer powered by 9V battery developed at the MIT Media Lab. Crickets can control motors and sensors with programs. Children at the Workshop make their own computational insects “Wonder Bugs” which can move, chirp or shine, with everyday materials such as paper, cloth and wood chips.
